About Visa

Apart from Indian, Bangladeshis and Maldivian nationals, all other visitors to Bhutan need to apply for a visa minimum 30 days before entering Bhutan. There is no facility of on arrival visa and it is only issued to tourists who have booked a trip with a local licensed tour operator either directly or through a foreign travel agent. All visas are issued from Thimpu and applications for tourist visas are submitted by the tour operators on behalf of the visitors. Visa clearance should be obtained before arriving in Bhutan and it takes minimum 10 days to process. Without visa clearance air tickets cannot be bought. At your point of entry the visa will be stamped in your passport. Himalayan Glacier Trekking will organize your visa for Bhutan prior to the start of your trip. For the visa procedure, you will have to send us two passport size color photographs and a color copy of your passport. Visas are issued for a 15 day period and extensions can be obtained in Thimphu at a cost of Nu.510.

Travelling to Bhutan customarily requires at least one flight change in India, Nepal, Thailand or Bangladesh. So, before embarking on your journey make sure that you can meet the visa requirements of those countries. Nepal and Thailand has visa on arrival facility while India generally requires visa procedures to be completed before arrival, and this can take up to two weeks.

There are two legal entry points into Bhutan – Paro's airport and the land border with India at Phuentsholing. The border crossing from Samdrup Jongkhar in southeastern Bhutan into India's Assam state is open but it is only for exit purpose.

  • We appreciated this local Travel Agency, because of friendly and experienced Staffs, who are working in it. They always tried to do their best, to make everything perfect, on what you agreed before beginning of the trip. This is important for clients, who decide to travel in Asia, because experienced tourists know, that it's not always like this here. I hope, they will remain the same, when their company will grow up.
